After so much speculation from pundits as sports analysts, it seems Ozil is moving to Turkey. The midfielder has been frozen out of the gunners’ squad, and it seems that Fenerbahçe is the destination.
Mesut Ozil signs for Fenerbahçe
Arsenal’s estranged playmaker, German Mesut Ozil has confirmed he is leaving the Gunners to play for Turkish football giants, Fenerbahçe. This move brings an end to his complicated 8 years with Arsenal.
The 32-year-old has not played a single match for Arsenal since 9 months ago due to issues with club management. He is joining the Turkish club on a free move after an agreement was reached by his representative and the gunners to terminate his contract.
Although there is no word yet about this transfer officially from both clubs, Mesut commented about this transfer, telling his media followers he is “ so excited” to be joining Fenerbahçe. According to Turkish television, he also said he will be in Istanbul on Tuesday morning to complete the move.
“ I have always been a Fenerbahçe fan. This is why I am excited to be joining such an illustrious club. God has allowed me to wear the Fenerbahçe jersey before retirement. I will do my best for the team. Though I have missed some match practice, I feel fit physically, and have no injuries.“Ozil said.
Ozil time at Arsenal
This transfer ends the Ozil spell in England, where he won laurels with the gunners which include: three FA trophies and a community shield. Ozil was signed for £43 million from Real Madrid by Arsene Wenger.
The former German player and world cup winner the last match with the gunners was a 1—nil victory against West Ham. He has played about 255 matches for the Gunners, scoring 45 goals and having 78 assists in his career. It is hoped Mesut will revive his stagnant careers at Fenerbahçe.
